Clinical diagnosis is an important area that every day it demands new and competitive analysis systems. In this point, conventional systems require a large amount of time and money for reagents and instruments, which is not compatible with the enormous number of analyses that are needed in daily life.

In the health sector, there are a large number of diseases of a chronic nature (diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, respiratory diseases, etc.) that need to be monitored continually and others (e.g. Down’s syndrome) that need to be detected in an early-stage. This is not feasible today outside the confines of specialized centres causing a big impact on the cost of health care. Moreover, the increasing of the ageing population that will require more health treatments will have tremendous impact on the economy. Undoubtedly, the application of microfluidic and electrochemical systems to this area could be a great solution. In this area, the decentralization of those typical analyses is of paramount importance in order to reduce cost, simplify the analytical process and make these technologies more accessible to end-users.

Lab-on-a-Chip technologies can offer promising tools in proteomic, genomic and cellomic fields. In the same way, microfluidic and electrochemical sensor technologies are a key topic for the development of new Point-of-Care (POC) analysis system useful in the health sector. Thus, microfluidic platforms could become useful to determine a large variety of compounds in biological fluids.

MicruX microfluidic and electrochemical solutions are contributing to develop a new generation of portable and easy-handling devices that can improve the clinical analysis in a very economical and effective way. Moreover, the development of clinical applications with these novel devices will bring to the society a more personalized medicine, enabling "true" in-situ analysis, home test etc... carried out quickly and by relatively unskilled personnel.

Therefore, the new generation of Point-of-Care systems based on microfluidic and electrochemical technologies will be useful in the determination of different biomarkers in the health sector.
